Why X's advanced search is worth learning
The search box on X shows you a fraction of what the platform will actually give you. Behind it sits a full query language: you can demand a minimum number of likes, restrict to a single week two years ago, exclude every reply, or ask only for posts aimed at one account. None of it is discoverable, and X's own advanced search form exposes maybe half of it.
That gap is the opportunity. Most people scroll a keyword feed full of noise. A query with a floor on engagement, replies excluded and a language set returns a page you can actually read end to end.
The operators that do the most work
Three are worth knowing by heart. min_faves: puts a floor on engagement and removes the long tail of posts nobody saw. -filter:replies strips replies, which is what makes a keyword search readable, because most posts containing any given word are replies to something else. And since: with until: bounds a window, which is how you find what people said about a product launch during the week it happened rather than ever since.
The rest are combinations. Putting several accounts in an OR group watches a whole competitive set at once. Quoting a phrase turns a fuzzy match into an exact one, and that difference alone usually decides whether a search is useful.
A trap worth knowing about
A hyphen inside a term is not a hyphen to X, it is a NOT. Searching for a product called red-ship reads as "red AND NOT ship", which quietly returns a pile of unrelated posts while looking like it worked. Anything with punctuation in it needs quotes.
This builder quotes for you: any term that is not a plain word comes out wrapped, and handles and hashtags are left bare because those genuinely are operators. It is a small thing that silently ruins a lot of hand-written searches.
The problem with running searches by hand
A good query is a snapshot. It tells you what was said before you ran it, and then it stops. The conversations worth catching are the ones happening now, and they arrive at the pace of the platform rather than the pace of you remembering to check.
That is what squidX automates. You describe what you're watching for once, and it runs the equivalent of these searches continuously, reads every match against your ideal customer profile, and hands you a ranked shortlist of who is actually worth replying to. Use this builder to see what is out there. Use squidX so you stop having to look.
